You lower the blind, turn off the lamp and notice a bright line beside the window. The fabric itself may look completely dark, yet the room is lighter than you wanted. Before choosing a replacement, it helps to separate two questions: is light coming through the material, or finding its way around it?
Look at the whole opening
Blockout fabric and a blackout window system describe different things. A standard roller blind can use blockout material while leaving space at the sides or bottom of the opening. Changing the fabric alone will not necessarily address those gaps.
All Seasons Living’s LuxOut system combines blockout fabric with a measured frame, side channels and bottom detailing designed to limit light around the blind. The fitting is part of the solution, which is why the team checks the actual window opening before recommending a setup.
Decide how much darkness you need
Think about the job of the room. In a living area, you might simply want to soften glare while keeping the space welcoming. In a bedroom or a media room, a narrow strip of outside light may be the very thing you want to address. Neither brief is wrong; they call for a different conversation.
Describe the result you want in everyday terms. Perhaps a streetlight shines towards one window, or you would like to watch a film during the afternoon. Specific examples give your installer a clearer starting point than asking for the darkest fabric available.
Check the room at the right time
Before your measure, look at the window when the light bothers you most. Close the existing blind and note where you can see brightness: along an edge, underneath, above the roller or through the material. A few photos can help explain what you are seeing if the appointment happens at another time of day.
Also look beyond the window. An open doorway, a glazed door or another uncovered opening may contribute to the room’s brightness. Include those details in the discussion so the proposed window treatment is being judged against a realistic picture of the whole space.
Ask how the frame will fit
A window reveal is the recessed area around the window. Its depth, shape and finish are useful things to discuss when considering a framed blind. Ask the installer to show where the frame and channels would sit, and how the completed installation would look beside your existing trim.
Point out handles, opening sashes, flyscreens and any curtains you plan to keep. Ask how you will reach the window for its usual operation and cleaning. This is also the moment to compare finishes in the room, rather than making a colour decision from a screen.
Make the controls part of the decision
The current LuxOut offering includes remote-controlled motorisation and a rechargeable battery. Ask how charging works for your particular window, where the charging connection will be and what is supplied. If app control interests you, confirm the equipment and setup included in your quote.
Before accepting a proposal, ask it to identify the fabric, frame finish, controls and installation work. Have the team explain the expected light control at your opening, the care routine and the applicable warranty terms. A clear specification makes it easier to understand both the finished appearance and everyday use.
